    I have bought quite a few things from Bass and Caird and have been consistently impressed with both the quality of the products and the knowledge behind the wines. The biltong is excellent. I have tried the Chilli Chutney Biltong, Butchers Choice Biltong and the Extra Chilli Biltong, and all of them were fresh, full of flavour and the sort of thing you immediately want to order again once it is gone.

    Where Bass and Caird really stands out is the wine. Debs, the sommelier, clearly knows every bottle she sells. The range of South African wines is particularly good, with bottles starting around £6.50 and going up to under £48, which means there is something for every budget. I have bought a number of excellent red wines from the Cape Town area, especially from the Stellenbosch region, which produces some of my favourite reds.

    Debs is extremely good at recommending the right wine. Whether you want a single bottle of red, white, rosé, sparkling or dessert wine, or you need wine for a large event, she will guide you in the right direction. We asked Debs to help supply the wine for a 50th birthday party and her recommendations were outstanding. She managed to select excellent wines that worked perfectly for our budget and the event.

    Bass & Caird is our absolute favorite wine shop. Debbie and the team are always warm, friendly, and genuinely helpful, whether you’re picking a weeknight bottle or something special. Their selection is excellent—great wines across styles and budgets, with some really amazing South African options. Their wine tastings are a highlight: beautifully organized, welcoming, and a wonderful way to discover new favorites and making new friends.
